The Morgan Academy Senators were no April Fool’s Day joke as they defeated Fort Dale 20-2 and 10-0 in varsity baseball action on the road Thursday.
In the 20-2 victory, junior Trey Jones was ‘an RBI machine,’ according to Morgan Academy head baseball coach Stephen Clements. He drove in five runs on three hits. Jones drove in runs on a double in the second inning, a single in the third inning and a single in the fourth inning.
Senior Osagie Aghedo doubled scoring one run in the first inning for the Senators. But the Senators got 10 runs in the second inning with Matthew King, T.B. Clements, Aghedo, Davis Vardaman and Jones all driving in runs.
Andrew Thomas earned the win on the mound for the Senators. He went four innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out seven and walking zero.
The Senators “saw the ball well” said Clements as his varsity squad racked up 17 hits with Jones, Aghedo, Chris Gardner, Clements, John Allen Ingram, C.J. Crocker and King getting multiple hits with Jones and Aghedo getting three hits each.
The Senators shutout Fort Dale in a second game 10-0 with Hunter Sheehan and Aghedo sharing turns on the mound.
Aghedo started the game for Morgan lasting four innings, and Sheehan struck out the last batter to finish the game. Sheehan surrendered zero hits over one inning, striking out one and walking zero.
The Senators got one home run when Aghedo got a dinger in the fifth inning. The Senators got nine hits with Thomas, Ingram, Aghedo and Hand all getting multiple hits. Thomas went three-for-three at the plate.
