Morgan Academy varsity baseball pulls out a win at Southern Academy Friday

The Morgan Academy Senators Varsity took a late lead to defeat Southern Academy on the road 13-3 on Friday, March 4.  

The game was tied at 3-3 with the Senators batting in the top of the fourth when Allen Lightfoot grounded out, scoring one run. But it was Andrew Thomas who led the Senators to victory, driving in four runs. Thomas went two-for-three at bat and drove in runs on a double in the first and a walk in the fourth.

In fourth inning action, Hunter Sheehan doubled on a three-two count, scoring one run, T.B. Clements singled on a two-two count, scoring one run, and Thomas drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Senators scored seven runs in the sixth inning with Lightfoot, Thomas, C.J. Crocker, Sheehan, and Hayden Roberts all moving runners with RBIs.

Sheehan led the Senators to victory from the pitcher's mound. The righthander lasted one inning, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking one. Davis Vardaman threw four innings in relief.

Clements started the game for Morgan surrendering three runs on two hits over one inning. The Senators had 

six hits in the game. Thomas and Sheehan each collected two hits. And the Senators stole ten 10 bases during the game with John Allen Ingram and Clements stealing three each.

Morgan Academy head varsity baseball coach Stephen Clements said, “I thought we played well tonight. We had a few unlucky breaks early and Southern made some good plays. But I’m proud of the guys and all of their hard work.”

The Senators are 6-2 on the season.
