The Class 2A No. 16 Burton Lady Panthers took two tough losses on Saturday in the final day of the Navasota Rattler Shootout Classic.

Burton began its day with a 43-16 loss against La Porte and followed it up with a tough 44-41 defeat against Austin Crockett.

The Lady Panthers (14-4) extended their losing streak to four games after winning each of their first 14 contests. All four losses have come in a two-day span in Navasota.

Burton made just four shots against La Porte in a tough day from the field. Only freshman guard Mya Rodriguez made two shots.

Rodriguez added four free throws in a 4-of-6 performance from the line to tally nine points for the game.

Freshman forward Houston Hodde made a 3-pointer in the second quarter for Burton's only points in the period as well as its first basket of the game.

Sophomore guard Leilah Ellis and Isabella Young each scored two points.

Burton later hung with Crockett until the very end. After losing the first quarter 13-11, Rodriguez scored eight points in the second quarter to push the Lady Panthers to a 20-19 halftime lead.

The Lady Panthers trailed 34-32 entering the fourth quarter until ultimately falling by three points.

Rodriguez finished with 15 points to lead Burton in its tournament finale. Hodde added 14 points, including eight points in the second half and two first-quarter 3-pointers.

Junior guard Valerie Hernandez made two 3-pointers in the second half and finished with eight points.

Burton continues non-district play at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Hallettsville in the Burton High School gym.
