The Tigers are hiring Michigan offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey to lead their offense. ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report the news. PowerMizzou.com reported that a deal is likely to be finalized by the end of Sunday, then the school made it official.
“We are excited to welcome Chip Lindsey to Mizzou to lead our offense,” coach Eli Drinkwitz said in a statement. “He does a tremendous job of not only coaching and developing players, but organizing and implementing the offense. He is an excellent offensive mind with a wide range of experience from high school to offensive coordinator to college head coach. Chip is a tremendous addition to our coaching staff and someone who can seamlessly transition into the job.”
On Saturday, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that Lindsey had “emerged as a leading candidate” for Mizzou’s offensive coordinator position.
Coach Eli Drinkwitz said last week that he wanted an offensive coordinator who has “been in the fire before” in terms of calling plays. Lindsey has been an offensive coordinator at several stops in the FBS. He was at Southern Miss from 2014 to 2015, Arizona State in 2016, Auburn from 2017 to 2018, UCF in 2022, North Carolina from 2023 to 2024 and Michigan this past season. He was also the head coach at Troy from 2019 to 2021.
“I could not be happier to have the opportunity to work with Eli Drinkwitz in Columbia,” Lindsey said in the statement. “What Coach Drinkwitz has done at Mizzou over that past six years is remarkable. You couple that with the commitment the University of Missouri has made to the football program, this is one of the most attractive coordinator jobs in the country. The commitment and infrastructure in place from an organizational standpoint and the talent on the field is truly exciting.”
