The Wilcox Academy Wildcats suffered a blow to their state championship ring goal for 2025 with a 40-0 loss to regional opponent the Patrician Academy Saints at home Friday night.
The loss dropped the AISA Class AA Region 2 Wildcats to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in regional play. Conversely, the win lofted Patrician Academy to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in regional play.
For the Wildcats, Julian Curry rushed for 60 yards on 12 carries; Jim Vick had 11 tackles followed by Steele Swanner with 10 tackles and an interception.
Wilcox Academy head football coach Lebo Jones said of the loss, “We played hard tonight but Patrician physically dominated us.” He said he was still proud of his kids for their effort. But he said, “We need to have a good week of practice because we have another region game next week versus Jackson.”
The Wildcats will travel to 0-3,0-1 Jackson Academy on Sept. 12.
