The 2022 season for the Morgan Academy Senators varsity baseball team came to an end on the road at Glenwood School on Wednesday, May 4.
The Senators fell 12-2 and 14-3 in an AISA Class AAA round three playoff doubleheader.
“I hate the season had to end for these guys,” said Morgan Academy varsity head baseball coach Stephen Clements. He said, “They have fought through a lot of adversity this season and just kept fighting.”
He also said, “Glenwood has a first-class program, and I wish them the best of luck in the finals. We finished the season 21-10 and I am super proud…”
In the game one 12-2 loss to Glenwood, the Gators scored on two singles in the first inning.
And the Senators struggled to contain the high-powered Glenwood Gators, giving up 12 runs.
Glenwood scored seven runs in the fifth inning.
Colton Dempsey led things off for the Gators on the hill surrendering two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Andrew Thomas was on the hill for Morgan Academy. The righty allowed six hits and 10 runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two.
Barron Frazer, T.B. Clements, John Allen Ingram, C.J. Crocker, and Thomas all had one hit to lead Morgan Academy.
Glenwood Varsity Gators racked up seven hits.
In game two, the Senators lost the lead late in a 14-3 defeat at the hands of the Gators.
The game was tied at 3-all with Glenwood batting in the top of the fourth when a walk scored one run.
The Senators struggled to contain the Gators, giving up 14 runs.
Glenwood took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth inning. And Glenwood scored eight runs in the sixth inning.
Brandon McCraine got the start for Glenwood Varsity Gators. The ace went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out 10.
Hayden Roberts led things off on the mound for Morgan Academy. He surrendered five runs on three hits over three and a third innings, striking out one.
Davis Vardaman, Clay Beers, and Hand each contributed in relief for Morgan Academy.
C.J. Crocker went two-for-three at the plate to lead Morgan in hits.
Glenwood tallied 10 hits in the game.
