The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has announced that it will release a new stamp commemorating the Civil Rights Movement icon, John Lewis.

Lewis was among many others that were injured in the Bloody Sunday incident at Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965. After the passage of the Voting Rights Act he continued to advocate for Black Americans.

Lewis served in congress for more than 30 years before he passed away in 2020.

The City of Selma released the following statement from Mayor James Perkins Jr. on Facebook:

"What an honor to have the United States Postal Service issue a stamp recognizing the voting rights work of the Honorable John Lewis. As Mayor of Selma, I acknowledge that we celebrate with the nation the accomplishments of Congressman Lewis. This is a great reminder to us that "good trouble" is righteous work that should be remembered and celebrated."
