Bloch Park playground cleanup day set for Feb. 17

The playground at Bloch Park is in need of repair and cleanup. To get the playground usable again, a community cleanup day will be held on Feb. 17 starting at 8 a.m.

Selma City Councilman Clay Carmichael said he had received a few complaints about the Bloch Park playground. After going and looking at the playground, Carmichael reported it is not safe, and it needs some general improvements.

“There is some damage on some slides. And over the years some pieces of equipment have been removed or toppled over. And it needs some new bedding material.” Carmichael said he also found damage to the fence.

Along with repairing the equipment and spreading new bedding material, there will be some sanding and painting, fencing repair, grass cutting, and general cleanup around the area.

This will probably take multiple workdays.

“Eventually we’ll try to replace everything that needs replacing, get it back to 100% usable,” he said. “And add some more equipment to make it a better play space."

Carmichael reached out to some contractors for help and they suggested a community volunteer cleanup day.

There will be garbage bags and a few basic garden and yard tools there, but he suggested bringing tools and gloves.

Carmichael has started an events page on Facebook called “Clean Up Bloch Park Playground.”
