Students from the Blackburn Institute at the University of Alabama (UA) recently partnered with Alabama Entrepreneurship Institute (AEI), the EDGE and Selma Resilience Initiative for a certificate program for small businesses in Selma.

The one-day program took place in April when the group visited small business owners in Selma to recruit and helped with the second annual Selma River Pitch event.

“I was awed at the passion I witnessed local entrepreneurs exhibit as they pitched their ideas to the panel of judges, passionately explaining the heart and logic behind their projects,” said Micah Adams, who was part of the group.

“I will always remember the fast ties of heartfelt community shown between the River Pitch participants, and I continue to reflect on the history, deep loyalty and mass potential for economic growth I witnessed in Selma.”

They received a grant from the Blackburn Institute’s Daniel Community Scholars Program to cover expenses.

The certificate program featured an interactive agenda with ten volunteer coaches.
