Winn-Dixie in Selma will be closing in March to be converted into an Aldi store.
According to Southeastern Grocers, Winn-Dixie's Selma store on Dallas Avenue will close in early March to be converted into an Aldi location. SEG did not say when the store would reopen.
In a statement made to the Black Belt News Network, SEG said Winn-Dixie workers were given notice about the closure and offered the opportunity to apply to roles at newly converted Aldi stores or remain with Winn-Dixie and transfer to another store.
Aldi announced plans to buy Winn-Dixie and fellow chain Harveys in 2023, which included store locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Aldi announced in November that seven new Aldi locations were planned for Alabama, including a new Tuscaloosa County location that will open on 10 McFarland Boulevard in Northport.
In Selma, SEG said they want to “deliver an excellent shopping experience with minimal disruptions for our associates, customers and communities.”
“As we work through this transition period, conversion plans are still being finalized, and we will share more information as it becomes available,” the statement said. “We appreciate the support and understanding of our valued associates, customers and communities throughout this process.”
