Black Alabamians for Education is sponsoring an education symposium on Saturday Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Selma Convention Center.
Legislators, local and county leaders, school system administrators, superintendents, parents and students will explore the intersection of education policy, community leadership, and family engagement, according to the website.
The keynote speaker will be educator and entrepreneur Duncan Kirkwood. His presentation will explore how educators can cultivate resilience, foster student engagement and create environments where all learners can discover their purpose and potential, according to the organization’s website.
“As Alabama enters an important election year, this year’s symposium will place a special focus on the power of civic engagement and the role voting plays in shaping the future of our schools and communities,” the website said. “This convening will help families better understand how their voices and their votes can influence the educational landscape.”
The event is free, but registration is required at www.blackal4edu.org.
