The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) hosted its State of Schools event on Thursday, Oct. 31 to provide updates on the Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) system.
A press release from MACC said that though they "urged" the MPS Board of Education to keep outgoing superintendent, Melvin Brown, they pledged their continuing partnership.
“The Chamber partnership believes Montgomery Public Schools has achieved too much progress to slow down now,” said Caryn Hughes. “We support the board’s move to keep the district’s turnaround on track and fully endorse the selection of Jamie Wilson as Interim Superintendent, whose dedication and leadership have already been a key asset to MPS.”
Jamie Wilson now serves as interim superintendent. Her career background reportedly spans 18 years and includes Director of Human Resources for Reynoldsburg, OH, Middle School Principal, and teacher in the Chicago area.
“Montgomery Public Schools is committed to creating unique opportunities that allow our children to thrive academically, socially, and beyond the classroom,” She said. “Our strategic plan is designed to equip all students with the skills needed to succeed in a global society.”
The event was closed by MPS Board of Education President Dr. Brenda Coleman and board members Vice President Cassandra Brown, Pamela Cloud, and Claudia Mitchell.
“We have a plan to move forward, and we thank you for the trust and confidence you have placed in us," Coleman said. "Together, we are building a brighter future for all students in Montgomery Public Schools.”
