Wallace Community College Selma has partnered with Rise & Recover, a Selma-based program that works with local courts, law enforcement and community partners, to divert non-violent offenders into a path of recovery and restoration.

WCCS will provide educational opportunities and work training for Rise & Recover graduates, according to Johnny Moss III, director of marketing for WCCS.

“We (WCCS) are going to be a very important piece of the puzzle, to assist those participants (of Rise & Recover) that go and get jobs after they go through the process,” Moss said.

The Alabama Opioid Commission expressed its support for Rise & Recover at a drug rehabilitation seminar in Selma on Sept. 18. Curt Lindsley, the commission’s executive director for the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences, said Alabama experienced 1,408 deaths due to drug overdose in 2021. He said having access to comprehensive resources like Rise & Recover can save lives.

The Sept. 18 event was attended by local agencies, including the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, Foot Soldiers Park’s Community Engagement Corps., R.O.S.S, Kolbe Health Services, Rise & Recover, Inc., Dallas County DHR, Drug Free Communities of Dallas County, Vital— Improving Wellness in Alabama, Hope for Heroes and the Association of Christian Recovery Ministries.
