Voting Sign

Polling officials completed required training on Aug. 21 as they prepare for the Aug. 26 Selma municipal elections.

Walter McCrimmon of the Dallas County Board of Registrars told poll workers they may see some voters who are labeled as inactive voters, or INA. He said his office sent out many notifications to inactive voters so the voters could reactivate their status, but he said he received no responses.

An inactive voter must fill out a special form to vote on election day. Poll workers were told to call the registrar’s office if they encounter a voter labeled as inactive.

Selma Police Lt. Jason Crum told poll workers to call police if there is any sign of trouble. “All officers will be on the clock” on election day, Crum said.

Selma City Clerk Ivy Harrison, who led the meeting, told poll workers to call her office and the city attorney if they have any issues.

Harrison showed poll workers how to start the electronic voting machines and how to operate them if there is a power failure. She also discussed the proper signs that must be inside and outside the polling place. Polling inspectors received packets with contact information and the procedures for election day.

Workers learned about the “poll pads” that can help voters find their proper precinct.

Individual polling inspectors were also given important packets with contact info, rules and procedures to study.
