Ghost story filmed at Old Cahawba to air on Alabama Public Television
A ghost story filmed at Dallas County, Alabama’s Old Cahawba Archaeological Park will air Thursday night on Alabama Public Television.
APT recently filmed at Old Cahawba Archaeological Park for the second installment of its new video series, Jeffrey’s Southern Ghosts, which adapts stories from Windham’s well‑known 13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey collection.
The episode focuses on “The Specter in the Maze,” the haunting set in the field where the C.C. Pegues family once lived. The new episode premieres Thursday, May 14 at 8 p.m. It is now available on the network’s YouTube channel, listed under AL Public TV.
Director of content and writer Heather Daniel‑Whitson said the production team spent the week capturing scenes on location to preserve the atmosphere that made the story a staple for generations of Alabama readers.
“We're filming for the second episode in the series right now, The Specter in the Maze here at Old Cahawba,” she said. “The first episode came out just before Christmas on our YouTube channel. It’s the Phantom Steamboat of the Tombigbee.”
Daniel-Whitson said the series is planned as an eight-episode project, all drawn from Windham’s Alabama ghost stories. While the first episodes center on the original 13 Alabama Ghosts book, future episodes may expand into Windham’s other collections.
The third episode, already in development, will feature the Red Lady of Huntingdon College, another of Windham’s most recognized tales.
