Blackbelt Benefit Group’s annual Alabama River Chili Cookoff drew 500 to Selma’s downtown for friendly competition and to raise money for Rise & Recover Selma.

The cookoff that was held on Oct. 23 showcased the community’s culinary creativity and raised funds for Rise & Recover Selma, a nonprofit organization that provides recovery support services for individuals and families affected by drug and alcohol addiction across the Black Belt region.

Best Chili went to Bush Hog this year, followed by Reliable Chevrolet GMC in second place and Primary Health Solutions in third. Fan Favorite was First Cahawba Bank and the Most Spirited award went to SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice.

“This event continues to reflect the best of Selma – people coming together, having fun, and supporting a cause that directly helps our neighbors,” said Josh Wilkerson, president and co-founder of Blackbelt Benefit Group. “It’s inspiring to see how much heart and energy our teams, sponsors, and attendees bring year after year.”

While not the largest year on record, organizers said the event was full of energy, excitement, and neighborly spirit, carrying forward a cherished Selma tradition.
