Ghosts Season 5 may be over, but fans have plenty to look forward to when it comes to the CBS comedy’s future, as more episodes loom on the horizon, but there is a catch: Season 6 will debut in the midseason, marking a major schedule shift from its typical fall slot.
But fans, thankfully, won’t have to wait until 2027 to tune in because there are two hour-long specials arriving this fall and winter that will tide viewers over until Season 6 officially premieres. As audiences already know after Season 5’s finale, Ghosts left off on a precarious note for everyone’s favorite arrow-skewered spirit, Pete (Richie Moriarty), who officially found out what happens when he’s away from Woodstone for too long with his traveling powers as he seemingly disappeared.
“[Fans] will not have to wait. We’re gonna deal with [it],” showrunner Joe Wiseman told TV Insider, referring to the upcoming specials that will hopefully provide fans with answers before Season 6 debuts in the midseason slot. The specials will be timed to Halloween and Christmas, both of which have become traditional event episodes.

“I know it was couched as midseason, but with these specials that are going to be an hour long, we’re basically just premiering two weeks later than we normally would,” Wiseman continued to reassure, offering fans some solace as they deal with the extended absence of their favorite characters.
“We’re gonna pick up a couple of months after the finale took place,” fellow showrunner Joe Port clarified, noting the specials will carry on Season 5’s finale storyline. “That’s where we’ll start, and we’re gonna go from there.”
While viewers wait for answers, they’ll be able to tune into Port and Wiseman’s other series, the new comedy Eternally Yours, which centers around a family of vampires and the humans surrounding them. Eternally Yours will air Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on CBS, filling the slot previously held by Ghosts.
