Gov Ivey signs bill to annex Gallion land

Gov Ivey signed the bill for Demopolis to annex Gallion land on May 11.

Gov. Ivey on Monday signed the bill that allows the city of Demopolis to annex over 100 acres in Gallion for future commercial development.

The Legislature approved the annexation of land in Hale and Marengo counties where Highway 80 and the realigned new four lane Highway 69 joins in April during the 2026 session.

The agreement allows both Hale County and Demopolis city to share in tax revenues. Demopolis City will provide sewer services for this new development.

With the approval of House Bill 613, 116 acres on the southwest corner of the intersection will officially be within city of Demopolis limits as of Oct. 1. The property is smaller than the original plan of 305 acres, but Demopolis Industrial Board's Director of External Affairs Rob Pearson said that is plenty of land for future development and added no deal is in place yet for the parcel.
