The cohosts of The View were positively apoplectic over what Donald Trump said about the economic impacts on everyday Americans of the Iran war.

At the start of the second “Hot Topic” discussion of the day on Wednesday’s (May 13) episode, Whoopi Goldberg even apologized to viewers in advance for what she knew would be a furious discussion.

“I’m really sorry about bringing this news to you because it’s just — we want to bring in good stuff occasionally, but this is just not getting better. Bleak news about the U.S. economy. It just keeps piling up,” she said. “Inflation is at a three-year high, paychecks are shrinking, and the war in Iran is costing Americans from the gas pump to the grocery store. But here’s what You Know Who said when he was asked about it yesterday.”

She then rolled a clip of Trump being asked by a reporter how much Americans’ financial situations are motivating him to make a deal with Iran, and his response was, “Not even a little bit. The only thing that matters when I’m talking about Iran is, they can’t have a nuclear weapon. I don’t think about Americans’ financial situations.”

The clip then showed key Congressional members’ responses to the statement, including one who blamed the economic situation on Trump “inherit[ing] a bad one from the Biden administration.”

To that, Goldberg exclaimed, “I wish y’all would stop that. This is his economy… quit it. You wanted Joe Biden gone, he’s gone. Now grow a pair. This is your economy.”

Sara Haines then pointed out, “[Trump] ran on the backs of people that were told, ‘I’m going to make life more affordable. I’m going to help you.’ And they came out in droves, and this is what he does to thank them. The truest thing he may have said ever, ever in his life, I’ve never heard him be so honest — ‘I literally don’t think about the American people at this point.'”

Joy Behar followed that by saying, “Now he’s at the point in his mental disorders he’s now speaking the truth.” She then contrasted his message to that of Bill Clinton: “We went from, ‘I feel your pain,’ to ‘So, what? Who cares?’ That’s basically what this guy is saying to the American people and to his own cult, who voted for him based on the fact that he was going to fix prices, he was going to fix the incomes, he was going to fix the inflation, well, and he’s done nothing.”

Behar also maintained that he’d done “nothing” in Iran, saying, “They’re at the same place they were before he started this, so shut up and stop lying.”

Sunny Hostin echoed her fury, saying, “The New York Times reported, I think yesterday, that Iran actually has retained 70% of its pre-war missile stockpile and 30 of its 33 missile sites along the Strait of Hormuz. We get this illegal, unconstitutional war of choice — the president’s choice — and we have not obliterated their nuclear capability at all, and it’s cost us $29 billion.” Hostin then added, “When I say ‘us,’ I mean us, taxpayers.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin noted that Trump “can say things that any other politician, it would sink their career… and people just kind of chalk it up to, ‘He just spouts off and says things,’ and they let it go.”

However, Goldberg issued the final salvo by saying, “Here’s what I’m going to put in here. Some things that he didn’t seem to care about: He didn’t care about Americans’ health care when he let the Affordable Care Act subsidies expire; he didn’t care about Americans’ safety when he delayed payments to TSA agents for over 40 days; he didn’t care about his own supporters’ pleas for no more wars when he went to Iran; and now he doesn’t care that Americans can’t afford to feed their families.”
