The sign for Black Belt Art Treasures Cultural Art Center in Camden is being refurbished by the original artists as part of the organization’s 20th anniversary celebration.

The sign, which is a mosaic design, was created by artist Linda Munoz with the structure made by Danny Pettway and was unveiled at the 10th anniversary in 2015.

Over time, Associate Director Kristin Law said the sign has lost pieces from the mosaic and is in need of refurbishing.

Just in time for the 20th anniversary celebration on Oct. 2 that will launch a year of programming, Munoz and her daughter Myra will be renovating the mosaic part of the sign while Pettway will return to repair the structure.

The 20th anniversary will be celebrated with an event on Oct. 2 at their headquarters at 209 Clairborne Street in Camden. Read more about the program here.

Since opening on Sept. 30, 2005, Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center has showcased the works of more than 600 Black Belt artists of all mediums of paint, pottery, wood work, basket weaving, one-of-a-kind jewelry and much more since its creation in 2005. They have welcomed visitors from all 50 states and 36 countries.
