Little Amal, a 12-foot-tall puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl, visited Selma on Friday as part of a national tour.

The puppet that is part of a creative project called The Walk Productions caused quite a stir in downtown Selma as she walked over the Edmund Pettus Bridge, down Broad Street and along Selma Avenue to Brown's Chapel.

Crowds gathered to follow her and take photos, some going live on social media. Mothers held up their babies to be hugged by the giant puppet with flowing hair pulled back from her face.

Mayor James Perkins welcomed Amal and the team at the start of the visit and Rev. Leodis Strong closed out her visit on the steps of Brown Chapel, thanking the crew for bringing her and her message of hope to Selma.

Little Amal came with a team of helpers, including the person inside who makes her walk and works her facial movements and two outside who work her arms.

Little Amal also went to Montgomery at Five Points Cottage Hill.
