The US Postal Service has changed course and signed a five-year lease to keep the Akron Post Office open.

USPS told the community they were closing the Akron office on Oct. 31 and told the Black Belt News Network this week that the closure was because they did not renew the lease with the office’s property owner.

Congresswoman Terri Sewell got involved to help keep the office open.

Todd and Cindy talk about Akron in this segment of the Black Belt Newscast.
