Selma High School Class of 1987 currently holds the school’s best football record, going 8-2.
After Friday night’s game, Selma High’s 2026 football team is now 8-0 with two more games to go in the regular season: Northside in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 23, who is also undefeated, and Keith High, which is not a regional game.
The talk around town is that the members of the 1987 football team want that record to finally be broken. Is the class of 2026 the class to do it?
Those 87 boyz had something to say about that.
"Just do it," said Wide Receiver OJ Black. "We're all Saints. I am happy.
“Looks like y'all are about to beat us," cheered Defensive Tackle Anthony Smith. "I'm looking forward to watching you guys. I loved my time at Selma High.”
“I hope you guys break the record," stated Kicker Robert Joslin, who drove in for the game.
"Rules are made to be broken," stated Wide Receiver Carrol Harvey. "We've held this record long enough. Go out there and fight your tails off and take us to the State Championship.”
“Go Saints,” cheered Defensive End David Jefferson, who was second in tackles.
"I was a part of the historical winning tradition. I'm with the class of 89 but I helped those guys from 87 achieve what we achieved. And you guys coming together as a team can do it also," said Tailback Tasho Ruffin.
"The focus that y'all have, keep that. From me to you, I'm super proud of you guys. Always listen to your coach. I can't do nothing but salute y'all. Love y'all, man," stated Running Back Jerome Stokes.
"Selma Saints Nation. We will be in the building. 40 years is a long time. Proud of you guys. Coach Moody is a good coach. Let's go Big Blue," cheered Wide Receiver Orlando Burks.
Who knows what the future holds. No one. But what we all know at this moment is that Saints Nation is riding this until the brakes fall. The fans and alumni are in full effect.
Members from the 1987 team drove in for Friday’s game. They are OJ Black, Orlando Burks, Wayne Cleveland, Anthony Garrett, Darryl Glover, David Jefferson, Robert Joslin, Tasho Ruffin, Moses Shears, Anthony J. Smith and Jerome Stokes. Many 1986 team members were also at the game.
Selma High plays Northside in Tuscaloosa Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
