The public is invited to the 31st Annual Walk-A-Thon to promote healthy living by the Selma (AL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated on Sept. 26.

This year's theme is “Walk for Healthy Living".

“This is about much more than taking a walk,” said Dr. Patricia Robinson, President of the Selma Links Chapter. “It is an opportunity for us to come together as a community, move our bodies, learn information that can help us make healthier choices and remind one another that taking care of our health matters. We want people of every age to feel welcome.”

The event will feature education on cancer awareness, healthy eating and living, diabetes and other issues affecting individual and family well-being. There will also be health screenings, community resource booths, wellness information and giveaways.

Organizers are seeking to incorporate awareness about breast cancer this year as well. Participants will be encouraged to learn about prevention, early detection and "the importance of taking an active role in their health."

A press release from the Links chapter encourages families to attend, with strollers being welcome. Participants do not have to be experienced walkers or fitness enthusiasts, it said.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. followed by the walk at 8:30 a.m.

The event will be held at Valley Creek Park on 108 Dallas Avenue in Selma.
