Several agencies serving domestic and sexual abuse victims in the Black Belt were part of a round of grants from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).
An announcement from ADECA said that almost $430,000 in funds were granted to ten agencies.
“Domestic violence and sexual abuse are despicable crimes in which victims need both immediate and long-term attention to help them overcome the trauma of these acts,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. “These agencies and departments work tirelessly to provide needed services for the victims and to investigate, arrest and prosecute those who commit such crimes.”
The following agencies from the Black Belt benefited from the grants:
Montgomery Area Family Violence Program (or Family Sunshine Center) received $52,110 for crisis intervention, shelter, counseling, advocacy and other services to victims in Autauga, Butler, Chilton, Crenshaw, Elmore Lowndes and Montgomery counties.
The Montgomery County Commission was granted $79,217 to support the District Attorney’s Family Justice Unit prosecuting domestic violence cases in the county.
One Place Family Justice Center in Montgomery received $32,110 for the 24-hour telephone hotline service, court accompaniment, legal services and other services for victims of sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, elder abuse, human trafficking and teen dating victimization in Autauga, Butler, Crenshaw, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Perry and Wilcox counties.
Selma and Blackbelt Regional Abuse (SABRA) Sanctuary was granted $16,350 for crisis intervention, advocacy and other services for domestic violence victims in Dallas, Perry and Wilcox counties.
Dallas County Commission was given $54,100 for the Providing Intervention for Victim and Offender Transformation (PIVOT) program to help victims and rehabilitate offenders.
“ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of these agencies and organizations and the work they do to assist victims,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
