The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) will reactivate its toll free Game Check phone line for hunters to report their deer and turkey harvests.
The number is 1-800-888-7690. The phone line will be open 24/7 and will start on Dec. 28 at 8 a.m.
Calling the number to report harvests requires a process that begins with a recorded message to prompt callers to provide their conservation ID or ADCNR hunting license number.
The call is then transferred to an operator will ask for the date and county of harvest, whether the land is public or private and the antler point count for those reporting deer.
For those reporting turkey harvests they will be asked for the same information except for the turkey’s age (whether a jake or adult), as well as its beard and spur lengths.
The operator will input the data, which will help ADCNR's Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) make decisions about deer and turkey populations and bag limits for hunters.
In a press release WFF Chuck Sykes said that the phone line had been closed due to problems with the data input.
“We’d previously shut down the call-in number due to incomplete data gathered by the computerized system,” he said. “Having live operators enter the information into Game Check for the callers should make it a more user-friendly experience and gather better information for our biologists.”
Reporting is required within 48 hours of harvests or when possession of harvests is transferred to a processor or taxidermist.
Harvest reports can also be made on the Outdoor AL mobile app or on www.outdooralabama.com.
