The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs has awarded $6.3 million to help citizens in need with home energy bills.

“High energy costs can be a significant burden on people who are already struggling to make ends meet,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. “This assistance allows Alabama families to sustainably lower energy bills while creating a safer and healthier living environment.”

Priority is given to those with disabilities, the elderly and low-income households with children. The funds were provided through the Weatherization Assistance Program.

Eligible households are given energy audits to determine what can save the most money.
