The Alabama Department of Health is asking residents not to call your local hospital directly to set up appointments to be scheduled for a COVID-19 vaccine, but to schedule a time through the COVID-19 Vaccine Scheduling Hotline at 1-855-566-5333.

They also urge callers to be in the eligible vaccination group at this time. ADPH says they received over 1.1 million calls in the first day of being open to the public. Due to the overwhelming amount of calls, they want access for the target population to get through to schedule their appointments.

Hospitals, including Vaughan Regional Medical Center, have been overwhelmed with calls that are causing an obstacle to daily patient care.
ADPH says there is a massive call volume to that number, but recommends callers try their call again later if they get a busy signal.

The hotline is answered from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. seven days a week. Vaccination locations can be viewed at this link, https://go.usa.gov/xARKp and additional specific information, such as what to bring and what to wear, will be provided when appointments are made.

ADPH said the hotline received over 338,000 calls within the first few hours of operation and they are "rapidly adding staff to assist callers and appreciate your patience."

"While hospitals in a few areas of the state have begun vaccinating those 75 years of age and older, most are still working to make sure their frontline workers are vaccinated. Additional information will be provided when hospitals and locations other than county health departments have vaccine available for additional groups," ADPH said.
