The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) has signed a contract with the Lowndes County Unincorporated Wastewater Program Sewer Board (LCUWP) to install septic tanks for residents.

"The contract is a milestone in the progress of an Interim Agreement ADPH signed with the U.S. Departments of Justice (DOJ) and Health and Human Services (HHS) on May 3, 2023, concerning sewage disposal issues in Lowndes County," said a press release from ADPH on Friday.

An Environmental Health Assessment to analyze health risks from sewage exposure was created since the interim agreement. The Lowndes County Septic System Improvement Program to install septic systems was kickstarted as a result.

The assessment can be found at this link.

In the press release the ADPH urged residents to fill out assessments as soon as possible due to septic systems installment being limited to available funding, which is $1,500,000.
