The African American Civil Rights (AACR) Preservation Grant program is taking submissions for historic sites related to the Civil Rights Movement to receive grants from the National Park Service (NPS) for preservation.

Using money from the Historic Preservation Fund the grants will go to "architectural services, historic structure reports, preservation plans, and physical preservation to structures," for sites selected by the NPS.

The program also seeks to preserve stories about the Civil Rights Movement. Grant money ranges between $15,000 and $500,000.

The AACR is being supported and promoted by Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07), who maintains a page on her website detailing further information.

Sites in Selma that have been given grants include Tabernacle Baptist Church, Amelia Boynton Residence and Brown Chapel.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 12 in 2021. Those that wish to apply for grants can do so here.
