The 2023 Gee’s Bend Airing of the Quilts Festival in Boykin will be held this Saturday, Oct. 7 in Boykin and a panel discussion at Freedom Quilting Bee Legacy will be held in Alberta on the same day.Â
The Airing of the Quilts Festival will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Gee’s Bend Ferry Terminal/Welcome Center on 12021 County Road 29 in Boykin.Â
"The festival continues a long tradition of outdoor quilt display in Gee’s Bend and provides visitors with the opportunity to explore this vibrant artistic community that has given rise to generations of African-American quiltmakers," said a press release for the event.
"This is an annual celebration of generations-old quiltmaking tradition, featuring quilt displays and sales, workshops, guided tours, food, music, and more."
A panel discussion on community involvement in the Civil Rights Movement will be held at the Freedom Quilting Bee Legacy 4295 County Road 29 in Alberta.
