Two Black Belt students were awarded scholarships from the Alabama Power Foundation in the inaugural year of its Community Scholars Program.
Both were awarded a one-time $2,500 scholarship to go to a community college, college or university of their choice in fall.
Arriuna Taylor of Greene County High School will attend Howard University and plans to major in political science.
“I am honored to receive this incredible scholarship, as it is an investment in my future at Howard University,” said Taylor. “As I prepare to study Political Science at my dream college, receiving this scholarship provides me with great support, encouragement, and pushes me one step closer to my future in law and helping others. I am so excited to begin my journey, and I greatly appreciate your belief in my potential.”
Alberto Galvan of Demopolis High School will attend University of West Alabama for mathematics and engineering.
“This scholarship will allow me to accomplish my educational goals,” said Galvan. “I will use the scholarship money to help me receive my degree in mathematics so that I can later obtain my degree in chemical engineering.”
