Alabama Power is joining community partners to help customers with bill payments as winter weather causes more energy use.
A press release from the company said that the average temperature in January 2025 was lower than normal according to the National Weather Service. The more energy used to heat a home the higher the bills are.
Alabama Power released a list of community partners to reach out to for assistance. From the press release:
- ProjectSHARE: A program administered by the Salvation Army, ProjectSHARE assists with the energy bills of low-income Alabamians who are age 60 or older and/or disabled. Customer interested should call 205.328.2420, select prompt 2.
- Alabama Business Charitable (ABC) Trust: Funded and established by Alabama Power more than 30 years ago, the ABC Trust provides energy assistance throughout the year. To learn more about the ABC Trust, visit PowerofGood.com/ABC-Trust.
- Special Needs Assistance Programs: We provide several programs for customers with special needs, including alternate payment dates for people who rely on monthly government checks. We also offer Braille and large-print bills as well as telecommunications services for the deaf.
Customers who are temporarily unable to pay their bills can make arrangements these three ways:
- Online at AlabamaPower.com.
- In person, at a business office.
- Customer Service at 1.800.245.2244 for residential customers or 1.888.430.5787for business customers.
Additionally, Alabama Power reminds customers about using the following tools from the press release:
- Home Energy Reports: By signing up for our free electronic Home Energy Report, customers receive a monthly email that gives a detailed breakdown of their energy consumption, highlights the areas in their home that use the most power, and offers personalized recommendations for saving.
- My Power Usage: For a more real-time experience, customers can try the My Power Usage tool, which allows them to monitor their daily usage, set alerts, and more, helping them stay within their desired budget.
- Budget Billing: And to make sure there are no surprises on their next bill, eligible customers can apply for Budget Billing, a billing program that levels out their payments to a similar amount each month, so you don’t end up with unexpected spikes in energy costs.
- Residential Pricing and Rate Plans: Customers can also review Alabama Power’s pricing plans and rates to make sure they are signed up for the one that’s right for their family’s needs and budget.
- Alabama Power Mobile App: The Alabama Power mobile app is available for download in either the App Store on iPhone or Google Play for Android devices.
