The Alabama Public Charter School Commission (APCSC) has been awarded $29,964,656 from the U.S. Department of Education’s Charter School Program (CSP) Grants to State Entities to be used over five years.

$27 million dedicated to subgrants for 23 charter schools, said a press release from the APCSC, which added that the grant will help charter schools to serve more than 10,000 "educationally disadvantaged" students in Alabama.

"This award from U.S. Department of Education allows us to open more doors for children across Alabama, especially those who haven’t always had access to schools designed for their success," said Logan Searcy, APCSC Executive Director.

“It gives us the chance to expand high-quality charter schools and empower educators to bring forward educational models that spark learning and inspire excellence. We embrace this investment with care and responsibility, knowing every decision we make must honor our purpose to prepare students for bright and promising futures."

During the five-year period funds will be used to expand charter schools, said the press release, including authorizing 23 schools in five new counties, with the APCSC maintaining 100% financial and operational compliance across all charter schools.

“As a Commission, we see this grant as a promise — a promise to students, families, and communities that these resources will be used to create meaningful and lasting impact,” said Dr. Shelia Austin, APCSC Chairman.

"This funding allows us to serve more students while strengthening the schools' families depend on, ensuring they remain places of stability, growth, and opportunity. Our shared purpose is clear: to make certain every child in Alabama has the opportunity to learn, achieve, and succeed in the future.”
