The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences (ASHS) in Demopolis recently welcomed its first math teacher, Jay Smith.

Smith's background includes secondary school and college-level teaching.

He holds bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a master’s degree in Math Education from the University of West Alabama and has taught middle school mathematics and college pre-calculus, trigonometry, and Calculus I.

“Jay Smith brings valuable experience teaching at both the secondary and postsecondary levels, which will be a tremendous asset as we build a rigorous academic program at ASHS,” said Laura Bailey, who is Dean of Curriculum and Instruction at ASHS.

“His references consistently described him as relational, student-centered, and deeply invested in the success of students, and we are especially pleased to welcome someone with strong ties to our local area.”
