The City of Selma's Office of Planning and Development has been awarded a grant from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to begin pre-construction on the the Alabama Avenue Streetscape and Infrastructure Improvements Project.

Selma Mayor James Perkins will hold a press conference about the grant tomorrow at 1 p.m. on the corner of Alabama Avenue and Washington Street.

“On behalf of the residents of Selma, adjacent business owners, and the Selma City Council, we would like to thank Governor Kay Ivey and Director John Cooper for their favorable consideration of the needs of Selma and for funding the project”, Perkins said in a press release.

ALDOT granted $705,700 for the first phase of the project. During the press conference Perkins will discuss more details and will encourage local and regional contractors to send bids to perform work.

"These catalytic projects to improve and preserve our historic downtown infrastructure aligns with the department’s priorities of economic recovery and revitalization as identified by residents,” said Planning and Development Director Danielle Wooten.
