West Alabama Highway

The Alabama Department of Transportation has opened the South Linden Bypass on Tuesday as part of the West Alabama Highway corridor construction.

An announcement from ALDOT stated that the opening was to facilitate construction of the southern tie-in of the bypass route with U.S. 43.

ALDOT will close the part of U.S. Highway 43 south of Linden, with traffic to be shifted onto the northbound lanes of the bypass and an extension of State Route 69.

The announcement specified the following:

Northbound U.S. 43 traffic

  • Must merge onto the new northbound bypass lanes.
  • Will travel north to the SR-69 extension.
  • Must turn left onto the extension, then turn right to return to U.S. 43.

Southbound U.S. 43 traffic

  • Must turn left onto the SR-69 extension.
  • Will follow the extension to the bypass lanes.
  • Will be directed back to U.S. 43.
  • Traffic will use only the newly built northbound lanes, which are temporarily striped for two-way travel.
  • Message boards, signs, and traffic drums will guide drivers through the new route.
  • Construction is still active in the area. Drivers should slow down and use extra caution.
