The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin replacing the bridge over Blue Gurth Swamp on SR-14 in Dallas County on Monday, Feb. 12.Â
The project is set to begin with sign and traffic control installation.Â
"Due to the location of the bridge, the new bridge will be built in the same location of the current structure," said a statement from ALDOT. "A detour will be in place, beginning Wednesday, [Feb. 13] while the current structure is removed, and the new one is built."Â
The signed detour will have motorist use SR-41 and SR-140 while the project takes place.Â
The replacement is approximately $3.4 million, with the low bid being awarded to Murphee Bridge Corporation from Troy. It is expected to be completed by spring 2025. Â
