Almost 60 Dallas County residents to be added to county water systems thanks to relief funds

The Dallas County Commission presented checks to area water boards during Monday’s meeting, including West Dallas Board members Maggie Drake-Peterson, Herbert Blackmon, Rakeland Honor and state Rep. Prince Chestnut.

Almost 60 Dallas County residents will be connected to public water systems thanks to grants from the Dallas County Commission to the county’s four water authorities.

The Dallas County Commission gave each of the county’s four water authorities $150,000 for repairs and improvements. The money is from a $600,000 grant the county received from the American Relief Fund, a fund set up by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to give states economic relief from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds will be used to extend water lines, add fire hydrants and make other improvements in the county’s water infrastructure. Fifty-seven homes will be connected to one of county’s water systems as a result of the grants.
