Grant applications are open for the Alabama State Council on the Arts' Operating Support program for the fiscal year 2027.Â
Organizations that are eligible can submit a letter of intention by Feb. 2 to be considered for funding. Those who are approved will be notified by April. 1.Â
"The competitive Artist Fellowship program offers funding for both emerging and established artists & arts educators to support professional growth and creative endeavors," said a post on social media by the council.Â

9 AM CST TUESDAY...
* WHAT...Very cold temperatures as low as 8 above expected.
* WHERE...All of central Alabama.
* WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to 9 AM CST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of
subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
To prevent freezing and possible bursting of pipes they should be
wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
