A reward being offered for information on a 2014 cold case murder has been increased from $11,000 to $15,000.

Charlie “Jay” McCord was killed in his barber shop on Mt. Meigs Road on Oct. 14, 2024 at 12 p.m. New evidence has come to light that includes a video of a suspect walking toward the shop at the time of the murder.

Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey recently held a joint press conference with Central Alabama CrimeStoppers Executive Director Tony Garrett and county Cold Case Unit Investigator Antony Shannon to announce the reward and ask for the public's help.

"Mr. McCord’s sister, Minister Furlesia Bell, was also present and asked that anyone with information please come forward," said a post on social media. "She said his loved ones, especially his children, 'need to know what happened and his murderer must be held accountable.'"

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Montgomery Police Department at 334-241-2651.

Central Alabama Crimestoppers can be contacted at the 215-STOP (7867) 24-hour tip line, 1-833-AL1-STOP or download the P3-tips app.
