School supplies

The Alabama Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is coming up this weekend from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 19 until midnight on Sunday, July 21. 

The holiday allows an exemption from the state sales tax for traditional school supplies, computers, school uniforms, gym suits and other clothing. 

Exempt items include the following:
  • Clothing priced at $100 or less per article of clothing
  • School supplies valued at $50 or less per item
  • Books costing $30 or less per book
  • Tablets, laptops, computers and printers with a selling price of $750 or less

All of the counties of the Black Belt Region will be taking part. A list of specific cities can be seen here on the U.S. Department of Revenue's website.
