The Camden-based BAMA Kids, Inc. recently shared an update about the impact of its program on students in Wilcox County.Â
"This year, our youth have grown academically, developed life skills, discovered new interests through STEM, and discovered their creativity through the (arts)," said a newsletter posted on social media.Â
During the year BAMA Kids served 70 students in after-school and summer enrichment programs.Â
"The focus was to close the achievement gaps in academics, especially in reading and math," said the newsletter. "STAR assessments indicated that participants made overall reading gains of 2.1 and 1.6 in math gains."
Students participated in Alabama's Expanded Learning Program through a collaboration with Children's Trust Fund, the Alabama Department of Human Resources, the Alabama Virtual Institute and and Team Tall.Â
BAMA Kids also took part in Black Girls Rising and Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.Â
