Roy Fikes runs for Sheriff Perry County

Current Sheriff Roy Fikes announced he is running for the position in the 2026 election.

Roy Fikes, who was appointed Sheriff of Perry County by Gov. Kay Ivey in April, announced he is running for the position in the 2026 election.

Many county offices are up for election in 2026, including Perry County Commission seats, after a busy 2025 municipal election year.

In his announcement, Fikes said his decision to run “comes from a desire to continue the work he began after being appointed and to serve the people of Perry County with dedication and integrity.”

“I did not seek this position for personal recognition,” Fikes said. “I accepted the appointment to serve during a time of need, and I am now asking the voters for the opportunity to continue that service.”

Since his appointment, Fikes said he has focused on strengthening day-to-day operations within the Sheriff’s Office, supporting deputies and ensuring that the office serves the public with professionalism, fairness and accountability.

“Perry County is my home,” Fikes said. “I believe in treating people with respect, enforcing the law fairly, and being accessible to the citizens we serve. If elected, I will continue to work every day to earn the public’s trust.”

Fikes was appointed on April 3 by Ivey to replace retiring Sheriff Billy Jones.

Fikes is a Perry County native and served 30 years in law enforcement, including 22 years as deputy sheriff in the Perry County Sheriff’s Office as well as a campus security officer for Marion Military Institute.

The primary election is May 19. A primary runoff, if needed, will be June 16 and the general election is Nov. 3.
