Several agencies serving domestic abuse victims in the Black Belt have received funding from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).

ADECA granted close to $570,000 to agencies providing shelter, counseling, resources and other services.

“These agencies work tirelessly whether it is to assist someone in fleeing a potentially violent situation or helping them rebuild their lives,” said Gov. Kay Ivey in an online announcement. “I commend these organizations in south and east Alabama for their dedication to helping victims escape and recover from terrible ordeals.”

Those who were awarded were:

Domestic Violence Intervention Center (Opelika) – $121,720 for victims in Chambers, Lee, Macon, Randolph and Tallapoosa counties.

Columbus Alliance for Battered Women (Hope Harbour, Russell County) – $52,041 for victims of domestic violence in Russell County.

Wiregrass Angel House (Dothan) – $136,359 for people in Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike counties.

Montgomery Area Family Violence Program (Montgomery)- $162,442 for services in Autauga, Butler, Chilton, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lowndes and Montgomery counties.

The House of Ruth (Dothan) – $96,720 for Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike counties.

“ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey in assisting these agencies in their compassionate and dedicated support of victims of crimes,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
