Two students from the Black Belt are part of the 2025 class of the Tuscaloosa Rural Pre-Medical Internship at the University of Alabama (UA), the fourth class of the program focusing on rural primary care.

The program by UA's College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS) educates interns on family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics.

“We are extremely excited to welcome our fourth cohort of the Tuscaloosa Rural Pre-Medical Internship to campus,” said Candace Lacey, program coordinator for CCHS Rural Programs. “Although our students bring different perspectives, they all have the same goal of one day serving the rural communities of Alabama.”

Zamaria Richardson, of Demopolis and Mary Stoltze, of Troy are interns with the program.

The internship is partly funded by a supplemental award provided by the Federal Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Health Workforce.
