By summer’s end, workers will begin a year-long restoration of historic Brown Chapel AME Church.
The church’s members and its foundation will mark the event with a groundbreaking on June 23 at 4 p.m. at the church on Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
The church, which is on the National Register of Historic Places and a National Historic Landmark, served as the starting point for the Selma-to-Montgomery marches and hosted the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) for the first three months of 1965.
