The town of Camden has been noted as among the best "river towns" for people to settle down and retire in by Southern Living magazine. 

Although it was considered smaller because of its population of around 3,000 people, Camden lies close by the Alabama River, making it ideal for boating enthusiasts. 

The town's annual tour of historic homes was also said to be attractive for retirees interested in history.
