The theatrical group, The Canebrake Players, is the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce's (DACC) Business of the Month.

"Although profits have never been the goal, the Players’ investment in the arts is seen in every hand-stitched costume, every repurposed seat, and every child’s smile on stage," said DACC on social media.

"From homemade lighting made of black tin cans to a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, the group’s growth reflects their determination.

The group was founded in 1981 for fun at the beginning but grew into a larger entity over time as they performed from place to place.

The Canebrake Players have been supported by local volunteers, donations, and partnerships with the city.

"Each year, they present three to four productions spanning comedy, drama, musicals, fantasy, and more — often led by a blend of professional, amateur, and in-house talent, said DACC. "Their annual children’s play and summer workshops nurture the next generation of performers, giving students hands-on experience in all aspects of production."

Their next production is "'Til Beth Do Us Part" by Jones Hope Wooten and will be held at the following times:

Friday, August 1 at 7 p.m.

Saturday, August 2 at 7 p.m.

Sunday, August 3 at 2 p.m.

Monday, August 4 at 7 p.m.
