The City of Marion is using a $150,000 from E-Footprint Innovate Alabama to establish a Smart City Infrastructure to allow public access to Wi-Fi.

The project transitions the city from leased carrier services to private wireless network with four Wi-Fi hotspots. It reportedly provides public safety with 360-degree surveillance cameras with IoT "readiness," said an announcement on Thursday.

Additionally, it also features monitors allowing the city to report public information with presentations capabilities, as well as public viewing of information.

"This progressive shift not only meets immediate needs and fosters independence and flexibility, but also equips Marion for future technological advancement reinforcing it's commitment to community transparency and growth," said the announcement.

"We are truly excited and thankful to EFP Broadband LLC., Innovate Alabama, Mayor Dexter Hinton and the governing body members who played a vital part in the application of this grant initiative."
